F-Food certification is awarded only to products that meet specific requirements.
Our functional oatmeal and flour blends are designed to deliver key nutrients that support your health. We are proud to be among the first in Poland to boast this unique certification! In today's post, we want to tell you more about what functional foods are and why you should include them in your daily diet. We will zoom in on what this unique distinction really means and which specific products can contribute to real improvements in health and well-being.
Functional food - what it is?
In the simplest terms, functional foods are food products that exhibit highly beneficial and documented (!) impact on human health. By consuming functional food products we improve our health and well-being and/or reduce the risk of diet-related diseases such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, some cancers.
Very importantly, functional foods are foods. Not pills, capsules, syrups! This is a very important issue. A food can be called a functional food when its positive effects are evident when consumed in a quantities normally consumed with the diet. Functional foods can be modified. But! The finished product, we can only enrich with a substance, with proven bioactive effects (such as herbal extracts) or remove unfavorable substances, such as sugar, salt.

To better understand what functional food is, it is worth stating what substances and compounds are included in functional foods:
- probiotics
- prebiotics
- dietary fiber
- omega-3 fatty acids
- polyphenols
- phytosterols
- vitamins
- minerals
The high content of these ingredients in the product makes it eligible to be considered a functional food, but this is not yet sufficient for the product to be certified.

Through the initiative of Polish scientists, researchers and nutritionists, the Research Center for Functional Foods was established in 2023. The CBŻF created the European Union Certification Mark "F-FOOD", which aims to distinguish products characterized by exceptional nutritional value of food products.
Functional food companies can apply for F-Food certification, which distinguishes them and their products as those that actually contribute to improving human health.
The F-FOOD Certification System is based on EU and Polish food legislation. Takes into account nutrition standards for the Polish population, guidelines for proper nutrition and current scientific knowledge.
- Favorable nutrient profile - determining the minimum content of vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, dietary fiber or protein.
- Unfavorable nutrient profile - maximum sugar, salt, fat content.
- Food additives - dyes, flavors and preservatives - are unacceptable.
- Unfavorable profile of technological processes - highly processed products are completely eliminated.
A key requirement of the F-FOOD System is that the product has at least one nutritional claim for vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, protein or polyunsaturated fatty acids (PFAs).
